A Taste of Home

This beautifully illustrated book will take readers on a colourful journey which begins with Tariq and ten family members sharing a meal. Piled high on the table are pancakes, bowls of steaming rice and a huge pot of bubbling deliciousness. When his teacher asks each child to bring to school a special dish to represent their family and culture, Tariq sees excitement mounting amongst his classmates. But the problem for Tariq is to choose just one favourite. One friend is choosing falooda, (tasting of sunshine). Mum suggests his choice must taste of home and happiness. So when Tariq enters the busy kitchen he watches the dance of his family, chopping, stirring, singing, whipping, laughing and mixing. With help from his parents, Tariq packs up perfect bun kebabs and tells his friends they remind him of going to the beach with his whole family, and hunting for tasty treasures. Here the illustrator goes to town, (to sea!) showing Tariq transported to a ship full of adventure. Tariq feels very proud of his choice. Food is a taste of home that connects with his family…. And now his friends too.
