Death of a Princess

Author: Susan Geason

Meryet, the harem’s beautician, could be the main suspect for the poisoning of the young princess Isis, so sets herself the task of discovering the real murderer. Set in the court of Ramses II this is one of the few stories written with an Ancient Egyptian background. There is a great deal of information about the court, harem and the work of a beautician which is a little indigestible at times but does colour the background well. Orphaned Meryet is a spirited and resourceful heroine and is helped along by her prospective father-in-law and a mysterious cat to unmask the murderer. The language is modern and jars slightly but this story moves along well and has some fascinating facts in it – it takes 2,000 lilies to make perfume!
