Waiting for the Future: Poems by children on poverty and bad housing

Waiting for the Future is the culmination of a writing project with schools across England to draw attention to the impact of poverty and bad housing. The anthology contains poems written by children expressing their views and feelings on the subject.

This is a powerful collection of children’s voices accompanied by images and photographs. The poems are heart-rending, harrowing and memorable; but they are also hopeful and full of spirit and cry out to be heard. At first glance this book appeared grim and worthy, but I would urge everyone to open the pages and read it. It has a place at home, in school, at work and at the front of our minds. It educates, informs and most importantly, lets us hear the voices and the real people behind the reports and statistics and government promises.
