Disco Fever
Matt and his mates are first years in a boys-only secondary school. To give them something to look forward to at the end of a term of exams, their teacher proposes a disco with the local girls’ school.
Initially the only possible response is a massive sneer – a disco in the smelly gym – how uncool is that. Until they hear that NO TICKETS have been sold to the girls. With honour at stake the boys work to turn the disco into a success. Their actions range from the sensible – bigger, better posters – to the frankly implausible (an episode involving dressing up) but it all pays off in the end.
The book is light, pacy and full of engaging characters. Shame that the cover, all pink glitter, stamps this as a girls’ book when the target audience must be boys – readers who aren’t provided with nearly enough of this kind of frothy contemporary fun.
