Hooey Higgins and the Shark
Illustrator: Emma DodsonHooey and Twig have just seen the most enormous chocolate egg in one of the local shops, and as moths are drawn to candle light so are they drawn to the egg. But there is one problem – a lack of cash. So comes the inevitable hunt for money, which they hope to raise by capturing a shark which has recently been sighted. Are they successful? Let’s just say that at this point a few more elements enter the story: the local bully, a pet dog, an unlikely sea urchin, some custard and so on… The tale wends its slapstick way until an explosion almost finishes the book. There are plenty of laughs along the route, and children will find themselves turning the pages to see just what happens (ie goes wrong!) next. It will be worthwhile to provide a few copies in the classroom, as this is the sort of book that may well tempt reluctant readers.
