With a line up of poets and their poems that will be really useful for teachers in the classroom, this is a culturally diverse collection that will give young readers a great deal of fun, especially to read aloud. In their introduction, Chatterjee and D’Arcy speak of their decision not to include a poem for every sport and game, but they have certainly covered the most popular and there is a big enough selection here to please any sporting child who may not realise that poetry is also for them. The four pages explaining the origins and key rules of each sport or game mentioned in the anthology will stimulate further investigation and research.
