Lockwood & Co: The Hollow Boy

Author: Jonathan Stroud

Lockwood & Co face their greatest challenge yet as Chelsea is engulfed in a plague of ghostly attacks. Can they cope? Lockwood has brought in the perfect Holly to help the team, but where does this leave Lucy.

This is the third instalment in the Lockwood & Co saga – and it will not be the last. Stroud not only ends on a cliff-hanger but throughout the narrative there are loose threads for the reader to pick up. As is to be expected the writing is excellent, the action is non-stop and the apparitions truly nasty. Stroud’s ghosts are not cardboard cutouts; they have a past, a reason for haunting – and Lucy is finding that she can connect with these beings. Indeed, as has become apparent over the course of their adventures, it is Lucy with whom the reader identifies, whose character deepens and develops as the narrative progresses. Lockwood and George, both individual, still remain shadowy. However, the reader will certainly want to know what happens next… can we wait?
