One More Hug for Nutmeg

Author: Caroline Jayne Church

This picture book’s cover illustration of Nutmeg Mouse fixing us with her beady eyes from her cosy bed lures us into the story. She’s just about to pose her next procrastinating question! After a bedtime story, she then needs a toy… a drink… a blanket… a woolly hat… and still she won’t settle to sleep.  Finally Nutmeg whispers, ‘And just one last thing, I promise,’ But Mummy is already fast asleep! Handmade paper with a scattering of petals and stems is used as the backdrop to the story and sets a rural scene. The characters are drawn in Church’s distinctive style, heavily outlined in black then blocked in with patterns or strong colour. With the text beautifully clear, sparse, and bold for emphasis, this book should be a favourite in families and nurseries.
