Opposites

This is a perfect little concept book for children of about three years. Any nursery teacher putting across the notion of ‘opposites’ simply could not do better than show it to the children. Small fingers will manage the robust push and pull tabs. And so it would be best to read it to a group of no more than six as they will certainly all want a turn. Each page is brilliantly thought out and achieved through simple but effective paper engineering. I like the torch which can be switched on and off with a quick upward and downward movement to show light and dark. The final page is most exciting: a quick pull on the tag shows ‘above’ – a little brown boat with a fisherman and his dog, while ‘below’ is illustrated with a busy underwater scene of colourful fish. (Not for children under 36 months because of small parts.)
