Pirate Gran

Author: Geraldine DurrantIllustrator: Rose Forshall

This picture book was developed from the winning entry of the BBC’s RaW 60 second story writing competition. RaW is a BBC campaign to help adults with their reading and writing through story telling to their children.

Rose Forshall’s comic style illustrations provide a treasure trove of clues to Gran’s piratical past – a rum bottle table lamp (though Gran preferred sherry), treasure map lampshade, skull and crossbones chest of drawers, cutlasses (for cutting the Sunday roast), not to mention Gran’s pirate hat and the resident crocodile who sleeps under her bed. Geraldine Durrant’s swashbuckling story of Gran’s escapades, both past and present, and how she met and married Grandpa is awash with witty asides and humour.
