The Bus is for Us!

This basic text is a step even before Rosen’s much loved bear hunt picture book – the rhyme and structure are simple enough for a baby to enjoy, or could  be used as a very first reading book for keen tots. A verse and chorus form proclaims that while it’s nice to ‘take trips in big ships’ or go ‘far in our car’, ultimately the bus is best because ‘the bus is for us’. The final verses get a bit more experimental, ‘sometimes I wish I could ride on a fish’ or ‘fly to the moon in a hot-air balloon’ but the busy feel of a community-filled bus wins every time. Gillian Tyler’s illustrations are sweet and inclusive, adding a traditional tone and warmth to the offering
