The Extraordinary Life of Neil Armstrong

Author: Martin HowardIllustrator: Freda Chiu

A bit late for most of the readers undertaking the Summer Reading challenge this year whose theme is Space, comes this biography of Neil Armstrong. It covers his early life, education and training, and of course his time at NASA and the famous walk on the moon.

It does beggar belief that a biography of someone of whom there are so many photographs that this book is illustrated with drawings of the man, including the cover. The paper is turquoise on which white typeface does not appear very clearly so no help to those who might have trouble reading. Every now and then random words appear in bold, some of which are then explained to be fair, but on page one why put in bold the word ‘ladder’?

I would have expected much better of Puffin and would suggest they look at other books in this series before the mistakes in this one are repeated.
