The Gallow Glass

Author: Brian Keaney

Written with force and fluidity, The Gallow Glass is a fast-paced feat of modern fiction that strikes a firm blow on the sides of privacy and personal freedom. Continuing on from The Hollow People, the novel follows the plight of Dante, who is now isolated from his friend and accomplice Bea.

In his efforts to rally against the repressive regime of Fascist dictator, Doctor Sigmundus – whose rule is reliant upon drug induced mind-control – revelations concerning Dante’s heritage unfold. Uppermost amongst these is a prophecy, related to him by Tzavinyah, messenger of the Odyll, that sets out Dante’s future.

The Gallow Glass is a tantalisingly short novel; its premise is in outlining developments concerning the power of the Odyll and the hanging-threat of its misuse that looms heavy across latter parts of the story.

Eventual reunion with Bea and the emotionally significant deaths of two key players within Dante’s life contribute to the long-lasting impact this book solicits. An accomplished sequel to The Hollow People, this is a prelude to the conclusion of the ‘The Promises of Doctor Sigmundus’ trilogy. It acts as a catalyst, agonisingly accelerating power, pace and pressure and, in so doing, setting the stage for a finale that is to be highly anticipated.
